I have some BIG NEWS I can’t wait to tell y’all! As you can tell by this post’s title, I am going to Guatemala! This coming summer, I will spend the entire month of July serving God’s people in Guatemala, and I am so excited to see God move! I will most likely be doing Kid’s Ministry, Community Outreach, and some Sports Ministry while there! Today, I want to share my heart behind the trip and tell you all more about it.
So, starting off with some of my testimony, I grew up in the church my whole life, but didn’t really come to know Jesus until I was 14. By the following summer, God had convinced me to go on an international mission trip to Nicaragua, and it changed my life forever. Right after that trip and every day since, I have felt God calling me to missions. He set a burning desire in my heart to share hope with the unreached all over the world, and every time I hesitate to pursue this calling, the passion grows stronger.
Some people have asked why can’t I just serve people here instead of going to another country. The thing is, we do need to serve God everywhere we are, both in our community and across the globe. But God gave every single Christian a calling to “Go, and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19). He has given each and every one of us a global calling, and that looks different for everyone. For some, it means becoming a full-time missionary abroad and for others it means supporting them through money and prayer. But either way, God has called each of us to be part of impacting his people all over the world. One of my favorite songs says, “If not us, then who?” No one has the ability to make a real impact on the world unless they have Christ in them, and since we have that, we NEED to use that power to change the world. Is there a problem in the world that you would like to see come to an end? I want to see poverty end. I want to see sex trafficking end. And I want to see hunger end. And I want God to do it. But, my favorite song continues,”So, I shook my fist at Heaven, said, “God, why don’t You do something?” He said, “I did, I created YOU!”
He created each and every one of us for doing far more than we think we are capable of. He created us to live on the edge, not to be complacent. He created us to be bold disciples. He didn’t create us to glorify ourselves, only worship him on Sundays, and build up material wealth. He created us to GLORIFY HIM. He calls each of us to lay down our lives for his sovereign purpose and FOLLOW HIM.
So I am stepping into God’s calling for my life by accepting the call to international missions and I really hope and pray that you will support me in that! I will be posting my support letter with most of the logistics soon to explain more about the organization I’m going with. I would love for you to spend some time in prayer with God considering how much you can support my ministry! I need $2,781 to make this trip happen, so any size donation will be so greatly appreciated!
So, when you feel ready to give, here are the details: Click this link: adventures.org and the screen that pops up will be the one where you can enter the amount you wish to give. Please make sure that you choose the Ambassador program in the drop down menu and type in my name: Heather Galway. You may also set up a recurring monthly or quarterly gift if you’d like! Also, I’d love for you to not make it anonymous so that I can thank you!
I will be doing some other fundraisers throughout the year and the donations page will always be open, so if you can’t give right now, you can do it later! I thank you in advance for all of your prayers and donations!!! I know that you all are willing to support me in any way possible, and I’m so grateful for all of you! Will you pray with me?
Father, thank you for creating us for a deeper purpose than simply living for this world. Please help us to step into our calling and passionately pursue you in everything we do. Please help us to recognize that we need to support what you are doing in the world and not just our community. We pray that you will use us to spark change in the world and to help the lost find their Savior. We love you. In Jesus name, Amen.
I often attach songs to my blog post because they just go along with what I write, but this one goes along with my post better than any other song ever has, so please go listen to it. These lyrics describe perfectly how I feel and how I’m pretty sure many of you all feel too!
