Back to School Time: Basically a New Year

My first day of Kindergarden and baby Kelly

Tomorrow (or today depending on when you’re reading this) is my last first day of school, at least K-12 that is. The shock is starting to set in. It’s really crazy to think that it will be my last time taking a first day of school picture with my sister Kelly. I’ve actually been looking forward to school starting again this year though, mostly due to the fact that I am a SENIOR!!! This will be a year full of “lasts,” which makes me sad, but excited for the next stage in my life. As I sit here thinking about it, I can’t help but think how different this time next year will be. Life changes so fast. But the cool thing is, even though I don’t know exactly what the future holds, God does. He has my future mapped out and is holding it in his sovereign hand. I know that I can trust him in any and all circumstances because of this. Jeremiah 29:11 says it best:

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

I also wanted to write today about how Back-to-School time is basically a second “New Year.” It’s the beginning of a new grade, a new season in our lives, new friendships, and potentially a new you! In this changing season, why don’t we rededicate our lives to God? Kinda like a New Year’s Resolution, but instead of giving up in February, let’s make it last for eternity. Let’s give him everything we have this school year. Even if you are a working adult and have been working all summer and tomorrow will just be another workday. Surrender it all to God anyway. Maybe it will make tomorrow’s workday feel refreshing and new.  Let’s give him our time, our talents, and our hearts. I bet there will be a light that will shine from within each of our hearts if we give them up for God’s purpose. If we are all followers of Jesus, we should all have the same purpose: to glorify God in everything we do.

“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” – Colossians 3:17

Lots of events happen this time of year too, my favorites being that our church’s weekly Bible Study and my accountability group start up again! I love having these intentional times of fellowship with my church friends! What is your favorite thing that happens during this back-to-school season? Comment below!

Will you pray for the new school year with me?

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for holding our today, tomorrow, and forever in your hands. Please help us to surrender to your will this school year and to follow you with ALL of our heart, soul, mind, and strength. Whether our first day of school is tomorrow or it’s just another workday, help us to shine your light wherever we go. Help us to make disciples. Help us to not just go through the motions this year, but to passionately serve you. You deserve our everything because you gave us everything. Please be with us and give us a fun year of friends and fellowship along with all the learning. We love you so much Father. Amen.

Feel free to save and use this phone wallpaper I made with Colossians 3:17 on it! I made it specially in BGHS colors! 🙂

  1. I Love you so. My favorite things today: kissing my Granboy goodby and daughter Mknz, knowing we are family no matter how far away. Smelling the rain that God sent. Wiggling my toes in bed. Falling asleep while praying. Standing in the Gap for you. Anticipating what God has for me tomorrow. And finally, realizing this very moment is all about God. Nighty night. G

      1. I hope you’re drifting off to sleep, being lulled by my prayers for you. By God’s plan for you tomorrow. And the sweet songs of angels who guard you. Sleep well, dear friend.

        Love one another. Glenna
