Hello friends! I hope everyone is having a great Sunday, whether you are spending it relaxing with friends and family or working around the house. Today, I wanted to share with you the reason that I named my blog “More of You and Less of Me, Jesus”. Those words have been filling my prayers recently. God has instilled in my heart this deep desire to become more and more like our flawless Savior and less like my imperfect self. My blog name is based on this Bible verse:
“He must become greater; I must become less.” – John 3:30
What better thing to strive for in life than to have the character of Jesus?
He is strong when we are weak.
He is joyful when we are depressed.
He is humble when we are prideful.
He is compassionate when we could care less.
He is generous when we are stingy.
He is loving when we are hateful.
I don’t know about you, but I want to be like Him. I want those traits, and it is hard in the world we live in. We so easily lose our patience in our fast-paced, I-want-it-now society, and we lose focus of what and WHO is truly important to us. What is the most important thing in your life? The first thing that pops into your head is probably it. Was it your relationship with God? If not, pray to God that he will give you a desire to seek him above anything else in this world. “He must become greater.”
Now honestly think for a minute about yourself. Do you honor yourself above Christ? Do you put your wishes and plans before His? If you do, pray for willingness to submit to God and his plans for your life. Pray that he would take away your old self and fill you with his humble Spirit. “I must become less.”
Will you pray this prayer with me?
Thank you for this beautiful day. Please give me a heart that is eager to follow you. Give me the desire to become more like your Son and less like my worldly self. Humble me, so that I may decrease and you may increase. Help me to put you above all my earthly possessions and relationships. Please, fill me with your Holy Spirit, Father.
In Jesus name, Amen.
This song goes along with this so perfectly. If you have time, listen to this song and sing it (or just sing in your head if you don’t like singing out loud) as a prayer to God.
